The Fairy and the Devil’s Cave

Long, long ago, on a high mountain top, stood a large castle. Not just any castle but a castle made of gold and marble stones. It was three stories tall. Inside the castle were more than ten rooms. Each room was beautiful and had a king size bed in it. You would die to live there. Inside the castle lived a fairy named Amanda and a wizard named Jackie. Amanda was good at tricking people. She could trick any one.

One cool and icy winter afternoon, Jackie and Amanda were playing Rummy, an old fashioned card game. All a sudden, they heard a knock at the door. Jackie jumped up to see who was there. There on the doorstep was a snake bundled in a bright red scarf. He was breathing quite heavy. He looked at Jackie and said, “The ball is in five hours, make sure that you arrive early to listen to the king and queen’s speech”. Then he quickly slithered away. Jackie said to Amanda, “Go to Alexa’s palace and get two fancy dresses for the ball”. As Amanda started to leave, Jackie said, “Please hurry but whatever you do, don’t go in the Devil’s Cave”. Amanda promised she wouldn’t go near the Devil’s Cave.

Amanda put on her big blue coat, matching wings and purple sparkly shoes. She also packed long purple rope, a bottle of pink glitter, a pair of dizzy eyes and a colorful umbrella. She opened the door. She turned around and said, “Goodbye Jackie” and ran down the stairs.

The air was foggy and sent a chill down Amanda’s spine. As she walked down the rocky path, the wind was blowing stronger and stronger, making it hard for her to walk. Then she grabbed her umbrella from her bag and opened it. Poof, it popped open. The wind caught the umbrella and pulled Amanda forward.

Amanda had traveled for about one hour when it started to snow very hard. The beautiful path was turning gray and the clouds were turning purple and black and then lightning snapped and thunder boomed. Amanda was becoming very frightened.

Just then, Amanda smelled an awful smell. “What’s that horrible smell”, she cried out. She dropped her umbrella, covered her nose, closed her eyes and ran as fast as she could to get away from the awful smell. After running for a minute, she couldn’t breathe anymore. Then she opened her eyes and took her hands off her nose. She looked around and discovered that she was in a dark cave.

Amanda had no idea where she was and was beginning to panic. All of a sudden, a rock fell in front of the entrance to the cave and trapped Amanda inside the cave. “Oh no, I’m stuck here” she mumbled. Then, lanterns lit up all around the cave. Amanda saw a bright light around the corner. She tiptoed toward it to investigate. She was surprised to see a family of devil’s standing there staring at her. They were red skinned and had sharp horns on top of their heads. One of them had green hair growing out of his ears. Another held a pitch fork and was smiling mischievely. He pushed a button on the pitch fork and a cage fell down from the ceiling and covered Amanda. “We are glad to have you for dinner” he said in a nasty, scruffy voice. Amanda shrieked. She was horrified. The devils were cackling happily as they started creeping away to the kitchen.

Amanda was desperately thinking about how to escape. Amanda dropped to the floor and yanked her bag off her shoulder. She unzipped her bag and dumped everything in it on the floor. Amanda saw her pair of dizzy eyes and remembered how good she was at tricking people. Amanda soon thought of a plan…

Amanda shoved her rope and her bottle of glitter to the side and put her dizzy eyes back in the bag. Then she rattled and shook the bars of the cage furiously. The devils ran in crouching down. They hissed as they entered the room. “Hey”, Amanda called as she was swinging the purple rope in the air like a cowgirl. “What do you want”, yelled the leader of the devil family. “I want you”, Amanda yelled stepping closer to him. She then threw the rope in the air and got it around his body. He struggled trying to wrestle his way out of the lasso. Amanda quickly grabbed her glitter bottle and dumped half of it on his head. Then the devil slowly fell to the ground. The other devils ran away frightened. Amanda reached out and grabbed the devil’s pitch fork and pushed the button to raise the cage. She was now free and ran off as fast as she could. When she got to the rock blocking the entrance, Amanda said,”Momolitomo”, which was the command that Amanda heard the devils use to move the rock. The rock opened up and Amanda scurried out.

Amanda had no time to waste. She quickly rushed past some bushes and ran up to Alex’s driveway. Amanda peeked through Alexa’s window to see if she was home. She was taking freshly baked sugar cookies out of the oven. Amanda leaped up on to the steps and rang the doorbell. “Oh company”, Amanda heard Alexa say. Then Amanda heard footsteps rushing towards the door. “Oh Amanda”, Alexa said as she opened the door. “Come in”, she said. “Well OK”, Amanda beamed as she walked through the door. “I need two fancy dresses for the ball”, Amanda said. “Yes of course”, Alexa said as she walked to the closet. She picked out two beautiful dresses. One was blue with silver sequences and the other was dark green with gold sequences. Alexa handed them to Amanda and asked if she would like to be poofed home. Amanda said yes and Alexa spoke the magic word, BiboBibo. In a flash, Amanda was back in the castle standing next to Jackie in the kitchen.

“Amanda, your home” exclaimed Jackie. “I was worried about you”, she said as she hugged her. “Did you get the dresses”, she asked frantically. Amanda held up the dresses and smiled. Jackie said kiddingly, “Where were you, the Devil’s Cave?” Amanda just smiled and handed her the dresses.
