Christie and The Thief

by Neosha

There once lived a ferret named Christie. She lived with a mouse named Maya. They lived in a white house that was surrounded by flowers of every color you could think of. Christie was very good at reading.
One day Christie was reading a book when Maya called Christie to her bed. Poor Maya was sick! “Go to the market and buy me the Two-Bee-M medicine,” Maya panted.
“Okay. I’ll get it,” said Christie. She was worried about Maya. “Oh, what will happen to Maya?” thought Christie.
As she headed out the door, Maya called, “Don’t go to the Old Forest.” Maya had forgotten to tell Christie why not.
As Christie passed by a tree, she saw a blue spring. It reminded her of Maya’s eyes. It made her feel happy, because she loved Maya’s eyes. She started to skip.

When she got to the market, Christie looked until she found the medicine stall. “Two-Bee-M, please,” Christie told the ferret with a smile.
“Alright,” he said as he took a transparent bottle with swirling silver contents off a shelf. “Two cents,” he said. Christie took two cents out of her shopping basket. “Thanks.”
When she got out of the market, Christie saw a beautiful butterfly with a shining blue back, round and pink heart shapes and dots. It was glowing, as if it had magic in it. Christie followed it as it flew into the Old Forest. It had trees with black bark and wild green leaves. “Oh oh,” she thought...

There stood an ugly black dog. Christie was terrified! “AAAGGHH!!” she yelled. She shook with fright. Then the dog rushed forward, just in time to snatch the bottle of medicine. “This is bad,” thought Christie. The thief ran out of the forest, the opposite direction of the butterfly. “Maybe the butterfly will help,” thought Christie. She hadn’t gone anywhere. So she followed the butterfly. The butterfly led her to a sign that said: FOR EMERGENCY, PRESS THIS BUTTON. Christie jabbed the button under the words. “Ow,” she said, rubbing her paw.
Finally, some cops came rushing to Christie. Christie pointed to where the dog had gone. “That way, that way,” she told them.
They all headed that way. Up ahead, they could see the thief. One of the cops (who was a ferret,) leaped and landed on the black thief. “WHOOOP!” the others cried as they leaped on the dog, too.
The thief dropped the medicine and Christie was just in time to snatch it. “Whew,” she thought, wiping her brow.
“Thanks,” she said as the cops led the thief to jail.
When she got home, Christie gave the medicine to Maya and Maya felt better. Then Mays asked, “Did you go to the Old Forest?”
“No,” replied Christie. Maya never knew that Christie had gone to the Old Forest.
“Ooh,” thought Christie. “Why did I lie?” But then she thought, “I lied because I am sometimes afraid of Maya. I don’t want to get in trouble with her.” And she smiled to herself tapping her paws.
